Street food, Bangkok style
I am a huge street food advocate. Given that I am the biggest cheapskate there is, this makes a lot of sense. Whenever we travel, street food and cheap eats is what I am running around eating-- as much of it as I can. There is something so pretentious about, say The French Laundry, that I can't get into, especially if there is something to be had that is grilled in the street. So I'm excited about this week's NY Times article about eating street food in Bangkok. Whenever I tell anyone that street was nearly all we ate when we visited there a couple years ago, I typically get asked, "Aren't you worried about getting sick?" I guess I am, but not any more than when I sit down at a restaurant and they prepare my food behind closed doors.
Now if only Seattle had vendors who sold noodles on the sidewalk... (sigh)
